Guidance Documentation for Informed Consent

Informed Consent: When and by Whom?

In recent months, the question of when and by whom consent should be taken from a person under the age of 16 has arisen in a number of studies being managed through the Scottish Children‟s Research Network.

A guidance document has been created in conjunction with the Central Legal Office of the NHS Scotland and the Chief Scientist Office that sets out guidelines on the issue of 'Obtaining informed consent for clinical research in children and young people under 16 in Scotland'.

The guidance has been issued in consultation with R & D directors of NHS Grampian, Tayside, Lothian and Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
